The technical picture
of the GBP / CHF rate
Over twelve months, the GBP / CHF rate has gained 2.5 %. It currently sits in the upper part of that range.
The GBP / CHF rate has held steady over the past thirty days. The move stays contained: no direction has taken hold in the short term.
Pound sterling stagnates against the Swiss franc
GBP/CHF traded between 1,0958 and 1,1061 to close at 1,0968, representing a virtually flat gain of 0,01% over the week. The pound sterling failed to hold on to its gains against the Swiss currency. After being among the strongest currencies on Tuesday, the British currency retreated on Wednesday alongside risk-sensitive currencies, before firming on Thursday and Friday against the dollar. On the political front, Labour’s clear victory in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election removes an initial hurdle for Prime Minister Burnham.
No urgency for the SNB as the franc remains stable
For his part, Swiss National Bank Chairman Martin Schlegel described the franc as stable in real terms, offering no hint of foreign exchange market intervention. With a policy rate set at 0%, a SARON at -0,04%, and inflation at 1,0%, right in the middle of the 0 to 2% target range, the central bank faces no urgency to act. The real test for the British currency will come with the Autumn Budget on October 28.

London, Zurich and the
rate in between
Two financial centres, two trades
The United Kingdom and Switzerland both live off finance, but not the same finance. London is the first currency trading centre in the world: close to four out of ten transactions on the global currency market are handled there, more than New York and Tokyo combined. It is a business of flow, volume and intermediation.
Switzerland does the opposite: it manages assets. Zurich and Geneva hold a considerable share of the planet’s cross-border private wealth. It is a business of stock, duration and discretion. Two models that do not react to the same shocks, which reads directly in the rate.
What British tremors do to the rate
The demonstration happened twice in six years. The day after the referendum of June 2016, the pound lost about 10 per cent against the franc in a single session. In September 2022 Liz Truss’s mini-budget triggered a collapse in British government bonds and the Bank of England had to step in urgently. The pound then touched its all-time lows.
In both cases the franc did nothing: it simply served as a fixed point. That property is what makes this pair readable. When GBP/CHF moves sharply, the cause is to be found in London, almost never in Bern.

The GBP / CHF converter
6 questionsWhat is the b-sharpe GBP / CHF currency converter for?
The b-sharpe GBP / CHF converter shows the pound sterling to CHF rate in real time, as traded on the interbank market. This rate contains no margin and no fees: it is the reference value for checking how many Swiss francs you should get for your pounds. The chart also shows the pair’s evolution and volatility over the last 30 days. To actually convert your pounds sterling, visit change your currency.
How much is 1 pound sterling in CHF today?
The converter above shows the value of one pound sterling in Swiss francs at the moment you check it, and calculates the equivalent of any amount. To do the calculation yourself, multiply the amount in pounds by the GBP/CHF rate: at a rate of 1.10, for example, 1,000 pounds sterling are worth 1,100 Swiss francs. The pound sterling has the symbol £ and the code GBP; the Swiss franc is designated by the code CHF. This amount is a reference without fees: the sum you receive depends on the margin and fees of the provider you choose.
Is the GBP / CHF rate updated in real time?
Yes, the displayed rate follows the interbank market in real time during opening hours. It moves with supply and demand for pounds sterling and Swiss francs, and can react within minutes to a decision by the Bank of England or the Swiss National Bank (SNB), or to the publication of UK inflation figures. The 30-day chart lets you place the current rate within its trend. Once your account is open, you can lock the rate that suits you for 48 hours.
Is now a good time to exchange pounds sterling for Swiss francs?
No one can predict it with certainty: the pound’s rate against the franc depends mainly on UK news, such as Bank of England decisions, inflation or the political context. Rather than waiting for the peak, set a target rate and activate a rate alert to be notified as soon as it is reached. When the rate suits you, lock it for 48 hours to secure your conversion. For a large sum, converting in several instalments also helps smooth out the effect of fluctuations.
Does the GBP / CHF rate displayed on the converter include fees?
No. The rate displayed on the b-sharpe converter is the interbank rate, i.e. the market rate without any added fees. This is the purest reference value, the one banks use among themselves. The rate you will get when making a real exchange through b-sharpe includes transaction fees from 0.12%, which allows savings of up to 80% compared to banks.
Does the converter take weekends into account?
The foreign exchange market does not operate at weekends: on Saturday and Sunday, the converter displays the last known rate, which is for information only. When the market reopens, the pound sterling to CHF rate may differ from it, particularly if a major UK announcement has been made in the meantime. Conversions resume on Monday morning, and a rate locked on Friday remains valid for 48 hours. So as not to miss a movement at the start of the week, create a rate alert.
Exchanging GBP / CHF with b-sharpe
8 questionsHow do I get the best rate to convert pounds sterling into Swiss francs?
The best benchmark is the interbank rate shown by this converter: the closer the rate you are offered is to it, the less you lose. Banks often apply a margin of up to 2%, rarely presented as separate fees, whereas b-sharpe starts from the interbank rate with transaction fees from 0.12%, decreasing as the amount increases. Always compare the final amount in Swiss francs you will receive, fees included, rather than just the advertised rate. Finally, rate alerts and the 48-hour rate lock let you convert at the moment that suits you.
Why convert pound sterling with b-sharpe rather than my bank?
Banks often apply hidden margins of up to 2% on the exchange rate. With b-sharpe, fees start from 0.12% and are always based on the interbank rate. In addition, you always have visibility on the exact amount you will receive before confirming. This saves you up to 80% on your transaction fees.
Can I lock the rate I see now?
The online converter displays the market rate in real time without fees, for simulation purposes. To lock a rate and initiate a transaction, simply create a free account on b-sharpe. From your client area, you can lock your rate for 48 hours. You will then have full visibility of the final amount to be received, including our transaction fees (from 0.12%): no surprises, you receive exactly the displayed amount. You can also set up rate alerts to be notified when the GBP / CHF rate reaches your desired threshold.
How long does converting pounds sterling into Swiss francs take?
Once b-sharpe has received your pounds sterling, generally allow 1 to 2 working days for the Swiss francs to reach your account. The timeframe starts when the funds are received: you therefore need to add the transfer time of your pounds from the United Kingdom or another country. It also varies depending on the amount and the receiving bank, with weekends and public holidays not counted. The exact amount in CHF you will receive is always displayed before you confirm.
Is my money safe?
b-sharpe is a Swiss financial intermediary, affiliated to SO-FIT, a self-regulatory organisation recognised by FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority. As such, it is subject to Swiss anti-money laundering rules. The pounds sterling you send are received in a bank account in Switzerland, separate from b-sharpe’s own funds and covered by insurance of CHF 5 million against fraud and hacking. Finally, b-sharpe has no way of debiting money from your accounts: you initiate every transfer.
Is there a minimum amount to exchange currencies?
No, there is no minimum amount for a one-off transaction: you can convert a few pounds as easily as a large sum. Opening an account is free, with no subscription or fixed fees; only transaction fees, from 0.12% and decreasing as the amount increases, apply to each transaction. Before confirming, you see the exact amount in Swiss francs you will receive. For a large sum, b-sharpe’s desk can help you secure your rate.
How can I convert a pension or income received in the UK into CHF?
If you live in Switzerland and receive pounds sterling, for example a UK pension, rental income or the proceeds from selling a property in the United Kingdom, each conversion through your bank can be costly in exchange margins. With b-sharpe, you transfer these pounds from the account where you receive them, then convert them into Swiss francs when the rate suits you. Rate alerts help you choose the moment, and the 48-hour rate lock secures large amounts. On 200,000 pounds, as when selling a property, a 1% difference already represents 2,000 pounds.
How do I create a b-sharpe account?
Opening a b-sharpe account is free and without commitment: you only pay fees when you carry out a conversion. For individuals, registration is done online or in the app, by following the steps and providing the required documents. If your file is complete, the account is generally activated in less than 24 working hours. You will then find in your client area the details for sending your pounds sterling, as well as the rate lock and rate alerts.
