The technical picture
of the EUR / USD rate
Over twelve months, the EUR / USD rate has given up 3.9 %. It currently sits in the lower part of that range.
The EUR / USD rate is at a one-year low. The month extends the quarter, which gives the move some consistency.
Euro weakens against the dollar
EUR/USD clearly underperformed this week, falling on Thursday to 1,1215, a low not seen since May 2025. The single currency then pared its losses to close at 1,1251, marking a weekly decline of 1,22 %. The euro was directly weighed down by the presentation of France’s 2027 draft budget and by energy tensions, as Washington threatens to ban its diesel exports unless European emergency reserves are released.
Dollar holds firm despite fading Fed expectations
The greenback remained supported by persistently high long-term yields, even though the probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October plunged from nearly 70 % to 16 %. In the eurozone, inflation accelerated to 3,8 % in September compared with 3,6 % expected, driven by an 18,8 % surge in energy prices, while the core measure remained contained at 2,2 %. The European Central Bank is keeping its options open for its October meeting, with one Governing Council member not ruling out further monetary tightening.

Twenty-five years of life together
EUR/USD alone accounts for close to a quarter of daily volume on the global currency market. Its history is short and eventful. On 4 January 1999 the euro opened at 1.18 dollars. It then lost a third of its value in two years and touched 0.82 in October 2000: the new currency inspired little confidence. Capital preferred the American technology bubble.
The move then reversed for eight years. The all-time high, 1.60 dollars, came in July 2008, a few weeks before the fall of Lehman Brothers. Since then the pair has moved in a much narrower band. The interest rate gap between the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank explains most of its movements.
What the dollar owes to 1971
The dollar has a longer history and one precise turning point. On 15 August 1971, Richard Nixon announced on television the suspension of the convertibility of the dollar into gold. The decision, presented as temporary, was final: it ended the Bretton Woods system and opened the era of floating exchange rates we are still in.
Nothing has replaced the dollar since. The euro was meant to be its counterweight. It accounts today for about a fifth of world foreign exchange reserves, against close to six tenths for the dollar. The balance of power the pair measures has therefore not moved much.

Frequently asked questions about EUR / USD exchange
The EUR / USD converter
6 questionsWhat is the b-sharpe EUR / USD currency converter for?
This tool shows the live value of the euro in US dollars, at the reference rate used between banks, with no margin or fees added. It gives you a reliable point of comparison before any euro to dollar conversion, whether with your bank or another provider. The chart also shows how the pair has moved over the last 30 days. To take action, visit change your currency.
How much is 1 euro in dollars today?
The value of one euro in dollars is shown in the tool above, at the current rate, and you can enter any amount. To do the calculation yourself, multiply the sum in euros by the EUR/USD rate: for example, at a rate of 1.14, 500 euros are worth 570 US dollars. The euro (€) is the common currency of the euro area countries, and the dollar ($) is the national currency of the United States. This result is a reference value: the sum you receive will depend on the margin applied by your bank or provider.
Is the EUR / USD rate updated in real time?
Yes, the displayed rate is updated continuously during opening hours and can move within minutes. The value of the euro against the dollar reacts in particular to monetary policy decisions by the US Federal Reserve (Fed) and the European Central Bank, as well as to inflation and employment figures published in the United States. The chart lets you place today’s rate within its recent evolution. When it suits you, you can lock it for 48 hours from your client area.
What is the euro dollar rate and how do I read it?
The euro dollar rate shows how many US dollars one euro is worth: the euro is the base currency of the pair, the dollar the quote currency. A rate of 1.14, for example, means that one euro is exchanged for 1.14 dollars; if this figure rises, the euro strengthens and you get more dollars for the same amount. The displayed rate is an average between the buying and selling prices used between banks. For the opposite direction, from dollars to euros, see our USD / EUR converter.
Does the EUR / USD rate displayed on the converter include fees?
No. The rate displayed on the b-sharpe converter is the interbank rate, i.e. the market rate without any added fees. This is the purest reference value, the one banks use among themselves. The rate you will get when making a real exchange through b-sharpe includes transaction fees from 0.12%, which allows savings of up to 80% compared to banks.
Does the converter take weekends into account?
Currency trading stops at weekends: on Saturday and Sunday, the displayed rate is the last known one, for information only. When trading resumes, the value of the euro in dollars may differ from it, particularly after a major announcement in the United States or Europe. Transactions resume on Monday morning, and a rate locked on Friday remains valid for 48 hours. So as not to miss a movement, set up a rate alert.
Exchanging EUR / USD with b-sharpe
8 questionsHow do I convert euros to dollars at the best price?
First compare the rate you are offered with the reference value shown above: the smaller the gap, the less money you lose. Banks often apply a margin of up to 2%, rarely presented as such, whereas b-sharpe starts from the interbank rate with transaction fees from 0.12%, decreasing as the amount increases. For a trip, withdrawing or exchanging dollar banknotes and coins often costs more than a transfer between accounts. For a large sum, such as a euro to dollar conversion for a purchase or studies in the United States, locking your rate for 48 hours protects you against an unfavourable movement.
Why convert euro with b-sharpe rather than my bank?
Banks often apply hidden margins of up to 2% on the exchange rate. With b-sharpe, fees start from 0.12% and are always based on the interbank rate. In addition, you always have visibility on the exact amount you will receive before confirming. This saves you up to 80% on your transaction fees.
Can I lock the rate I see now?
The online converter displays the market rate in real time without fees, for simulation purposes. To lock a rate and initiate a transaction, simply create a free account on b-sharpe. From your client area, you can lock your rate for 48 hours. You will then have full visibility of the final amount to be received, including our transaction fees (from 0.12%): no surprises, you receive exactly the displayed amount. You can also set up rate alerts to be notified when the EUR / USD rate reaches your desired threshold.
How long does it take to receive dollars?
Once b-sharpe has received your euros, the dollars are generally paid within 1 to 2 working days, a timeframe that can be slightly longer for a bank outside Europe. The timeframe starts when your funds are received, not when you initiate the transaction: so remember to add the time your own transfer takes. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays. In all cases, the exact amount in dollars you will receive is displayed before you confirm.
Is my money safe?
b-sharpe is a Swiss financial intermediary affiliated to SO-FIT, a self-regulatory organisation recognised by FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority. The euros you send are received in a bank account in Switzerland, separate from the company’s money, and covered by insurance of CHF 5 million against fraud and hacking. b-sharpe can never debit money from your accounts: every transfer comes from you. Finally, like every Swiss financial intermediary, b-sharpe applies anti-money laundering rules.
Is there a minimum amount to exchange currencies?
No, you can convert any amount in a one-off transaction, from a few euros to a large sum. There is no subscription and no fixed fee, only transaction fees from 0.12%, decreasing as the amount increases. Before confirming, you see exactly how many dollars you will receive. For a large amount, b-sharpe’s desk can help you secure your rate.
How can I pay for an expense in the United States with euros?
Whether it is tuition fees, a property purchase, a supplier invoice or an extended stay, paying an expense in dollars from the euro area often involves an international transfer on which your bank applies an exchange margin. With b-sharpe, you send your euros, they are exchanged into dollars on the basis of the reference rate, then transferred to the specified dollar account. For large amounts, you can lock your rate for 48 hours or create an alert to choose the right moment. For example, on 30,000 euros of tuition fees, a 1% difference already represents 300 euros.
How do I create a b-sharpe account?
Opening a b-sharpe account is free and without commitment: you only pay when you exchange money. It is done online or in the app, and b-sharpe accepts residents of European countries, not just those of Switzerland. If your file is complete, activation generally takes less than 24 working hours. You then have access to the details for sending your euros, the rate lock and alerts.
