The MAD / EUR converter
6 questionsWhat is the b-sharpe MAD / EUR currency converter for?
This tool shows the live value of the Moroccan dirham in euros, at the reference rate used between banks, with no margin or commission added. It tells you how many euros you should really get for your dirhams, before you compare with the offer from a bank, a bureau de change or another provider. The chart also shows the movements of the Moroccan dirham to euro pair over the last 30 days. To take action, visit change your currency.
How much is 1 Moroccan dirham in euros today?
The value of one Moroccan dirham in euros is shown in the tool above, at the current rate, and you can enter any sum. To do the calculation yourself, multiply the sum in dirhams by the day’s rate: for example, if 1 dirham is worth 0.09 euro, 1,000 dirhams are worth 90 euros. The Moroccan dirham has the international code MAD, but it is most often abbreviated to DH on prices displayed in Morocco; it is divided into 100 centimes. This result is a reference value: what you receive depends on the margin applied by your bank or provider.
Is the MAD / EUR rate updated in real time?
Yes, the Moroccan dirham to euro rate is updated continuously during opening hours. Its movements remain limited, however, because Bank Al-Maghrib, Morocco’s central bank, manages the national currency against a basket of currencies dominated by the euro. The chart lets you place today’s rate within its recent trend. When it suits you, you can lock it for 48 hours from your client area.
Why does the Moroccan dirham move so little against the euro?
The Moroccan dirham does not float freely: every day, Bank Al-Maghrib sets a central rate based on a basket made up of 60% euro and 40% dollar, around which the dirham can move within a band of plus or minus 5%. Against the euro, its movements are therefore moderate, and they depend mainly on how the dollar moves. It is also a partially convertible currency: transactions with other countries are regulated by Morocco’s Office des changes. To follow these movements without constantly watching the rate, you can create a rate alert.
Does the MAD / EUR rate displayed on the converter include fees?
No. The rate displayed on the b-sharpe converter is the interbank rate, i.e. the market rate without any added fees. This is the purest reference value, the one banks use among themselves. The rate you will get when making a real exchange through b-sharpe includes transaction fees from 0.12%, which allows savings of up to 80% compared to banks.
Does the converter take weekends into account?
At weekends, currency trading stops: on Saturday and Sunday, the displayed rate is the last known one, for information only. When trading resumes, the value of the dirham in euros may differ slightly, particularly if the dollar has moved against the euro in the meantime. Transactions resume on Monday morning, and a rate locked on Friday remains valid for 48 hours. So as not to miss a movement, set up an alert from your client area.

8 questionsHow do I exchange Moroccan dirhams for euros?
For banknotes and coins, it is best to convert them back before leaving Morocco, at a bureau de change or a bank branch: taking dirhams out of the country in cash is capped by Moroccan regulations, and they are difficult to exchange abroad. For money held in an account, a bank transfer is more suitable, through your bank or an online provider. With b-sharpe, your dirhams are exchanged into euros on the basis of the interbank rate, with a commission from 0.12%, decreasing as the sum increases. Before confirming, you see exactly how many euros you will receive.
Why convert moroccan dirham with b-sharpe rather than my bank?
Banks often apply hidden margins of up to 2% on the exchange rate. With b-sharpe, fees start from 0.12% and are always based on the interbank rate. In addition, you always have visibility on the exact amount you will receive before confirming. This saves you up to 80% on your transaction fees.
Can I lock the rate I see now?
The online converter displays the market rate in real time without fees, for simulation purposes. To lock a rate and initiate a transaction, simply create a free account on b-sharpe. From your client area, you can lock your rate for 48 hours. You will then have full visibility of the final amount to be received, including our transaction fees (from 0.12%): no surprises, you receive exactly the displayed amount. You can also set up rate alerts to be notified when the MAD / EUR rate reaches your desired threshold.
How long does it take to receive euros after sending dirhams?
Once b-sharpe has received your dirhams, generally allow 1 to 2 working days for the euros to reach you. The timeframe starts when the funds are received: you therefore need to add the time your transfer takes, which depends on your bank and on the formalities specific to transfers from Morocco. Working days exclude weekends and public holidays. In all cases, the exact sum in euros you will receive is displayed before you confirm.
Is my money safe?
b-sharpe is a Swiss financial intermediary, affiliated to SO-FIT, a self-regulatory organisation recognised by FINMA, the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, and subject to anti-money laundering rules. The funds you send are received in a bank account in Switzerland, separate from the company’s money, and covered by insurance of CHF 5 million against fraud and hacking. b-sharpe cannot debit money from your accounts: every transfer comes from you. Its services are available online and in the mobile app, with personal support from Geneva.
Is there a minimum amount to exchange currencies?
No, there is no minimum sum for a one-off transaction, whether you exchange a few hundred dirhams or more. There is no subscription and no fixed fee: only a commission applies, from 0.12% and decreasing as the sum increases. Before confirming, you see exactly how many euros you will receive. For a large sum, b-sharpe’s desk can assist you.
How can I transfer money held in Morocco into euros?
Savings built up in Morocco, the proceeds from selling a property, rental income or an inheritance: to have this money in euros, you need to make a transfer abroad, which follows Moroccan exchange regulations. Your bank in Morocco can tell you the steps and supporting documents required for your situation. Once your dirhams have been transferred to b-sharpe, you exchange them for euros when the rate suits you, with an alert or a rate locked for 48 hours. For example, on 500,000 dirhams, or around 45,000 euros, a 1% difference already represents 450 euros.
How do I create a b-sharpe account?
Registration with b-sharpe is free and without commitment: you only pay when you exchange money. It is done online or in the mobile app, and b-sharpe accepts residents of European countries, not just those of Switzerland. If your file is complete, activation generally takes less than 24 working hours. You then have access to the details for sending your funds, the rate lock and alerts.
